In this challenge, no team works in isolation — because when one part fails, it all falls apart.
Chain Reaction is a high-energy, hands-on team building activity where each group builds a section of a larger, interconnected machine. Think rolling balls, swinging levers, tumbling dominoes—except your team’s section must work with the teams on either side. Every piece depends on the next.
Created by Braver Strides, this challenge goes beyond just engineering fun. It’s a masterclass in timing, communication, and interdependence—mirroring how departments, roles, and people connect in the workplace. When one group succeeds, the whole system flows. But if one misses the mark? The whole thing collapses. Chain reaction.

HOW CHAIN REACTION WORKS
Divide into Teams
Participants are split into smaller teams, each responsible for one part of the overall chain reaction machine.
Design Your Section
Using everyday materials (think: cardboard, cups, marbles, tubes, string), each team designs and builds a contraption that triggers an action in the next team’s setup.
Collaborate at the Borders
The challenge? You’ll need to coordinate with the teams before and after yours to ensure your section connects perfectly—timing, alignment, and all. Remember, chain reaction.
Race Against the Clock
There’s limited time to test, troubleshoot, and perfect the chain. Expect a little trial and error… and a lot of “WAIT—GO BACK!”
Launch the Final Reaction
Once everything is connected, it’s go-time. Watch the full chain reaction play out in real time—every move counts, every team matters.
Debrief & Reflect
Wrap with a reflection on teamwork, dependency, and how even the smallest actions contribute to big-picture outcomes—just like at work.
